OSHE Half Yearly Workplace Accident Survey Report
664 workers lost lives due to occupational accidents during January - June ‘16
664 workers died in workplace accident covering both formal and informal sector, among them 155 workers in formal sector and 509 in informal sector. At the same period, 310 workers received serious injury. This survey was conducted based on published reports in national dailies and OSHE’s own sources.
Highest number of casualties happened in informal transport sector, where 291 workers lost lives, 77 severely injured; second highest number of life loses recorded in informal construction sector (died 73 and injured 31) and 47 agriculture workers lost life and 6 were severely injured. Besides 47 agriculture workers lost life and 6 injured. Due to occupational hazard 36 RMG workers died and 57 injured.
Apart this the survey revealed that there were 25 day labour, 17 domestic workers, 23 transport; company related workers and 15 ship breaking workers and service sector formal covering health, security guard, cleaner, hotel worker, DESA, WASA etc 17 workers died.
