World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2015

In order to create public attention on safe-work issues, the International Labour Organization (ILO) has declared 28 April as ‘World Day for Safety and Health at Work’. In this association, OSHE organized a National seminar on the occation of World Day for Safety and Health at Work at VIP Lounge, National Press Club, Dhaka on 26 April 2015. The theme of the day in this year is “Join in Building A Culture of Prevention on Occupational Safety & Health”

Mr. Mikail Shipar, Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment was present as chief guest while Mrs. Saki Rezwana, Chairperson of OSHE was moderating the event. Mr. Syed Ahmed,Inspector General (Additional Secretary), Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments, Mr. Shaha Mohammad Abu Zafor, President, Bangladesh Labour Federation& Coordinator, SKOP and Labour Advisor of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation, Kazi Saifuddin Ahmed attended at the seminar as special guests.

In the program, Mr. Chowdhury Ashiqul Alam, General Secretary, Bangladesh Trade Union Sangha, Secretary General of Bangladesh Labour Foundation Z M Kamrul Anam, Mr. Abul Basher Miah, Director (Engineering and Technical) (Rtd.), BCIC, Engr. Lutful Bari, Safety Specialist (Advisor), Occupational Safety Board of Bangladesh (OSBB), IEB were panel discussants.

Human Chain Organized byShip Breaking Accidents Victims Rights Network on

World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2015

On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2015, Ship Breaking Accidents Victims Rights Network organized a human chain with the help of OSHE on 24 April 2015 at Kadamrasul, Sitakunda in Chittagong in which more than 30 members of the network joined. The network members demanded for getting fair compensation, workplace safety, free treatment facilities (both long and short term), rehabilitating the survivors and providing them with alternate jobs.

Demands for the Protection of Informal Sector Worker’s Rights

OSHE Foundation and Karmojibi Nari with associated Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) organized a national seminar on “Worker’s rights to protect the legal rights and activities of the informal sector” on celebration of May Day 2015 at VIP Lounge, National press club, Dhaka on 4th May, 2015. Honorable State Minister of MoLE Mr. Md. Mujibul Haque MP presented as Chief Guest. Saki Rezwana Chairperson of OSHE delivered opening speech in the program.

Mr. Fazla Hassain Badsha MP, Shirin Akther MP, Syed Ahmed Inspector General (Additional Secretary) of department of Inspection for factories and establishment, Abdul Mukit Khan President of National Co-ordination Committee for Workers Education (NCCWE) were attended the seminar.

Ms. Protima Paul Majumder, President of Karmojibi Nari was presided the seminar while Assistant Director of OSHE Md. Omar Faruq presented the key note paper.

Executive Director of Karmajibi Nari Rokeya Rafique Baby, Assistant Executive Director of Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies Mr. Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed, President of Bangladesh Khet Mojur Samity Mr. Samsuzzaman Salim and Subal Sarker, General Secretary of   Bangladesh Bhumihin Samity etc were presented the event.

Observing World Decent Work Day 2015

OSHE Foundation organized a human chain to observe the World Day for Decent Work at in front of National Press Club, Dhaka. China Rahman, Pulak Ranjan Dhar, Kamal Siddique and other trade union activist also presented there. Besides agriculture workers of Chunaru ghat and exchange team of India were observing the World Day for Decent Work. Executive Director of OSHE Repon Chowdhury read out the key note of the day. The theme of the year is, "Decent Work- Key to Sustainable Development.” To realize the significance and relevance of the day, OSHE Foundation in solidarity with ITUC observed the day with due respect. Noted that in 2008 International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) declared 7 October as World Day for Decent Work and from that every year ITUC celebrated the day worldwide.
